Ralph claimed that this cartoon was autobiographical, although I could see no physical or personality similarities between him and Melvin. Perhaps this is the way we all feel when the world isn’t giving us the things we want, like a helpless hapless clown, looked down on by even the lowliest insects. Melvin tries hard to be hip, but he ends up utterly pathetic.
